Special Education

Waitaha Learning Centre is a state funded special education school for diverse learners. We seek to meet the needs of students with intellectual and physical challenges by providing developmentally appropriate programmes via Individual Education Plans. Student age can range from 5 to 21 years.
Our vision is for students to develop, within a supportive learning community, the competencies they need to reach their individual potential; to become lifelong learners; to be positive about themselves; and to relate well to others in the school and in the wider community. Waitaha Learning Centre is committed to being understanding, supportive and respectful of all students and their families.
Waitaha Learning Centre is an accredited fund holder for verified Ongoing Reviewable Resourcing Scheme (ORRS) students. We work in cooperation with local schools which are part of the Waitaha ORRS fund holding cluster. As part of the wider community we link in with other mainstream or special needs schools so that our students have opportunities to socialise at levels optimal to their learning. When students move from junior to senior level, we provide transition programmes. This is aimed at ensuring a smooth transition to participation in the community through work or day activities.
We welcome enquiries from parents, caregivers, families, professionals and anyway else with an
interest in educational opportunities for a child with special needs. Our principal will be happy to
discuss all the educational options for your child without obligation. Please call the school for
an appointment.
