The school programme is delivered under the New Zealand Curriculum framework, adapted to meet the special needs of our students. Transition programmes for senior students include Award Scheme Development Accreditation Network (ASDAN) and NCEA supported standards.
Each student in our school has an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) which is drawn up in consultation with parents, caregivers, specialist staff and teachers. each IEP has five Key Competencies:

Assessment of students' learning are ongoing and their programmes are adjusted to meet any changing needs.
Literacy and Numeracy are the core subjects for all our students. Thematic studies cover the seven Essential Learning Areas of the New Zealand Curriculum. We have our specific school curriculum designed to fit the diverse needs of our students. These include:

Waitaha School is committed to being understanding, supportive and respectful of all students and their families.
We have community based learning for all students, utilising our school vans, one of which has been adapted for wheel chairs. Aspects may include horse riding, swimming, sports involvement, library, sensory room.
